The pastoral care of pupils is of prime importance to us. If girls are to reach their full potential they need to feel secure and happy within the school community. Form teachers and classroom assistants play a very important role in supporting not only academic progress but the development of confident and articulate children. The Head of Lower School greets parents and children personally each morning and this contributes to the strong ‘family’ atmosphere within the Pre-Preparatory Department. A full time Matron is also on site. Parents are encouraged to play an active part in the life of the school. They are welcomed into the Department on many different occasions – school productions, parents’ evenings and charity days. The close relationship between home and school is a strong feature. We operate on ‘open door’ policy where parents have easy access to staff and Head of Lower School.
The recent OFSTED Inspection Report (February 2008) commented: “The strengths of the setting include highly experienced teaching staff and a strong emphasis on the free-flow system that supports children's progress from the nursery class through to the reception. This contributes to children's stability in the setting. Staff form a cohesive team that works together well on pastoral and academic attainment. Owing to their commendable and highly skilled practice children are consistently motivated to learn”.
