'THE WIZARD OF OZ' COMES TO EHS

For two nights only this week, Prep parents, girls and staff were transported to the Land of Oz as Year 6 performed the musical version of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to packed audiences in the Octagon. The traditional ‘farewell’ production by Year 6 before they move up to Senior School is another highlight in the School’s Summer Term calendar and once again they pulled it off superbly.

The heavenly air-conditioning of the Octagon made it hard to think of the heat of Kansas and the prospect of a tornado but the day-dreaming Dorothy (Maddie Browse) and her Aunt Em (Abigail Bridgewater) quickly transported us to the isolated farm. The tornado sent Dorothy (and the farmhouse) into the midst of the brightly-attired Munchkins in the Land of Oz who praised her for her (unwitting) part in killing the Wicked Witch of the East on landing! As the tale unfolded, Dorothy went on to meet her three travelling companions: Scarecrow (Amber Glenn), Tin Man (Kitty Cattell) and Lion (Lucy Visram-Cipolletta) and they left along the Yellow Brick Road for the Emerald City in search of the Wizard of Oz.

YEAR 7 ACTIVITY TRIP
yr_7_trip_09.thumbOn Sunday 21st June, 65 girls and 7 staff embarked on a long journey to Norfolk to stay at a Kingswood Centre. The focus of the activities was team work and trying new experiences. All the girls achieved their goals, and took part in everything from caving to archery, from outdoor laser to Flash Dance ( a computer programme). However the highlight of the trip was an afternoon on the beach during which the whole group gained hands-on experience of coastal defences. This was followed by a sand castle competition with a difference! All the teams had to create a village surrounded by different coastal defences, which were then tested by the bucket of water test. Our girls were outstanding, with all castles withstanding the test, and thus they were all winners. However with the tide coming in we retreated to the cliff tops, and watched the real power of sea destroy everybody's castle!
