Girls in both Lower and Senior School are offered plenty of opportunities to take part in trips which either pursue a course of study in School or are truly extra-curricular in content! Trips in the early stages of a girl’s education are short and will involve observation and exploration – for example, when Westbourne girls go to our neighbour the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.
As the girls grow older they experience longer journeys and full days out of School by visiting local museums, historical sites and scientific centres and then by the time they reach Year 5 are offered a residential trip to The Cranedale Centre in Malton, North Yorkshire.
As well as regular trips to the theatre and other cultural experiences, girls in Senior School are offered activity trips in Years 7 and 9, a ski trip in Year 8 and then later the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Geography field trips (in the UK and biennially to Iceland), the Chamber Choir tour of Italy (also biennial) and Sports tours to the Southern Hemisphere.
The Modern Foreign Languages Department runs regular short trips to France, Spain and Germany and the Sixth Form have the chance to visit New York every other year in the Easter holiday.
The girls are always encouraged to feedback their experiences at Assembly and through class discussion and sports trips, in particular, are a good opportunity for girls to socialise and get know pupils in other year groups.
