Drama and Dance form an exciting and enjoyable component of extra curricular life in School and from an early age girls can take part in ballet and short productions before moving onto larger scale plays in Prep with auditions for parts and the responsibility of learning lines. Prep girls also benefit from role play workshops and visiting companies who perform exclusively for the School and give the girls intimate access to actors and directors.

Though Drama and Dance are available as courses of study for public examinations in Senior School, the opportunity to continue to participate exists for all girls even if they have not chosen the exam option. Each year the Senior School holds a major production, which in 2007-08 was “Grease” and will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in 2008-09. Auditions are open to all girls and the School welcomes the participation of as many girls as possible on stage and behind the scenes.

LAMDA course are available after School and both Junior and Senior Youth Theatre runs weekly. In addition, the nationally-recognised Arts Award was introduced in 2007-08 and all EHS girls who prepared for scrutiny at Bronze, Silver and Gold level passed following external moderation in July 2008.

Senior School also holds a biennial Dance Show which showcases talent from all age groups and offers the School’s Dance Captain the opportunity to organise, mentor and choreograph work in collaboration with Staff.

EHS is most fortunate to have the multi-purpose Octagon as a venue for drama and dance and since its opening in 2005 it has witnessed performances of “Oliver!”, “Grease”, “The Wind in the Willows”, “Donkey for Sale”, “Vinegar Tom” and the 2006-07 Dance Show.
