Prep and Senior School libraries have developed in recent years in tandem with the revolution in learning to accommodate both traditional printed resources and internet-linked computers. EHS has a deep commitment to the value of books, their role in a child’s development and the habit acquired in school, and supported at home, to read throughout life.

Prep library is at the heart of the School, a resource which all girls pass time and time again during the day with open doors and well-stocked shelves. It is a very visible room with a non-intimidating atmosphere and staff always on hand to offer advice and a steer as to reading choices. Girls cluster at tables and in the reading area for small group instruction or tuition and are respectful of each others space and the need for quiet.

In Senior School, the library is the hub of all activity; it is located at the top of the central staircase and girls know it is a place of research, study and companionship. Staffed by two librarians, events and reading lists are tailored towards each Key Stage and the Sixth Form benefit from the many subscriptions to newspapers, topical magazines and on-line directories.

Along the corridor from the Senior library is the Fiction library which has a more relaxed feel and is well-used at lunchtime when girls choose favourite books to dip into or try out before deciding whether to borrow.

Libraries at EHS offer that traditional place of reflection and learning and keep very up to date with new purchases of fiction, sample textbooks, DVDs and reference books.
