Scholarships and bursaries are only available to girls in Senior School.


The following named scholarships are awarded annually based on a girl’s performance in the Entrance Test:

·  The Chamberlain Scholarship (Academic, awarded to a girl from the EHS Prep Department)
·  The Dixon Scholarship (Academic, awarded to an external candidate from the maintained sector)
·  The Anthea Cadbury Scholarship (Academic, open)
·  The Martineau Scholarship (Music, awarded following the Entrance Test and an assessment of a girl’s performance on an instrument and her musical understanding)

The above Scholarships have a value of 50% of fees but can be combined with Bursaries in cases of need.


A limited number of means-tested Bursaries for entry at Year 7 are available.

A number of Sixth Form Academic Scholarships ranging from 10% to 50% fee remission is awarded each year to current pupils by internal review and external candidates by examination. Internal candidates are assessed on performance in the December mock GCSE examinations and an interview for those short-listed.  (Some further minor scholarships are sometimes awarded each August, following results.) External candidates take examination papers in two subjects which they have chosen for A level study plus an interview. A report is also requested from their present school.

There is a Music Scholarship for a girl wishing to study Advanced Level Music. This may be awarded in full or in part.

It may, in certain circumstances, be divided between two candidates.

It is awarded following an audition and interview with the Music Department and can be up to the value of 50% of fees.

The Arts Scholarship is awarded to a girl studying the visual, creative or performing arts and is assessed by consideration of a girl’s portfolio or practical audition. Applicants will also be required to be interviewed and mock examination results will also be taken into account.

There are two Sport Scholarships which can cover up to 50% of fees. To be eligible a girl should have reached county standard or equivalent in at least one sport offered at EHS and be able to demonstrate and communicate strong leadership potential. Suitability is assessed with a practical training session and an interview.
